One Day after Woodcote Rally

It's amazing that it takes us 7 days to build up the Rally on the field but less than 24 hours after it's finished to virtually complete its removal.

Here's a picture I took earlier today and apart from a few third party items still to be removed then the field is almost back to normal apart from the worn tracks where all the vehicle movements took place - but they will recover in order for the local farmer Guy Hildred and the Hildred Partnership, to plant his next crop.

Sunday

Well despite all the steam engines, vintage cars, tractors and other exhibits at this year Woodcote Rally the star of the show has to be Leighton the Buzzard from David Hughes' Hawkwalk Birds of Prey display (www.hawkwalk.org).

Here's a picture I took of Leighton on Sunday morning whilst still tethered.

On Sunday afternoon during his flying display he decided enough was enough of the big whirly thing in the fun fare that spooked him out and he flew off into a tree down the footpath off Tidmore Lane. After Wiggins the Peregrine Falcon had finished his display David and I went to find him. We located him in a tree by Massey's Pightle and when he eventually came down the big whirly thing again spooked him and he landed in a big oak tree just this side of the A4074. We eventually found him and after an hour he eventually came down onto David's glove thanks to lots of one day old chickens being offered to him. As soon as David had him caught he was securely tied down to David's glove to be taken back in the van to the display area. As David said "I've never lost a bird (touch wood) but I have had  a few gone astray!."

There was a welcoming crowd back at the display tent when we eventually returned one hour later with the absconding Leighton the Buzzard.

It was a great experience for me as it's something I've never done before in helping to capture an absconding bird of prey!
